WRT54GL keeps dropping connection on LAN side

i upgraded my WRT54GL to 1.07-beta.7d firmware from the linksys firmware that originally came with it. after the upgrade i started to configure the router and noticed that it would keep timing out. i decided to ping the router continuously and noticed that about ever 8-10pings it would stop replying and lose connection and say request time out. it keeps doing this. i have rebooted the router and still get the same result. after some time it will completely lose connection and say destiniation host unreachable. i have tried different patch cables, different laptops running both vista and xp with service pack 2 and the result is the same.
i tried upgrading the firmware using the openwrt-brcm-2.4-squashs.trx file but it keeps losing connection. how else can i go about reflashing to the 1.07-beta.7d or restoring to the linksys default firmware and starting over again?

what TFTP client is the easiest to use?

Re: WRT54GL keeps dropping connection on LAN side

It is slove,
I believed that when we have no modem but a other routeur with wan as NB4 (neufbox) the WRT54GS should be connected through lan acces to other routeur (using gateway address); its worked but not when hotspot was activated. I was wrong!!.
Now all is OK

Re: WRT54GL keeps dropping connection on LAN side

Hi David,
You are right my dns address was not properly set, now it is good but the embedded coova-chilli is not able to connect to coova.org/uam/tos/tos.cgi.
I have tried to ping coova.org from the router WRT54GS+CoovaP (throught Putty ssh connection) , it is OK (reply in 181.0 ms) . But the traces in syslog shown:
Jan 24 23:32:49 ParameBasSablons35 kern.err coova-chilli[10869]: options.c: 362: Could not resolve IP address of uamserver: http://coova.org/uam/tos/tos.cgi!" target="_blank [Success]

When I try to connect at this address through windows broswer, it is ok.
Have you an Idee about this issue. (The route is slow in this state).
Thank!

Re: WRT54GL keeps dropping connection on LAN side

It looks more like DNS is broken. How is your WAN configured? DHCP or static?

Re: WRT54GL keeps dropping connection on LAN side

Hi,
David has probably right, because I have notice the following log traces that prove, i think, that I have no room in JFFS to store Chili setting: disk usage show that jffs is full after (100% used) flashing coovaP in my WRT54GS. So now , I thing the question is how to increase the size of JFFS2 (the wrt54gs has 8Mo of flash).
Also I am not able to connect telnet consol, CoovaAP reject telenet connection without user loggin prompt.

I have also noticed this log :

Re: WRT54GL keeps dropping connection on LAN side

You need to provide Internet connectivity to the CoovaAP router. It's probably trying to restart chilli like david said earlier. Either give the router Internet connectivity, or temporarily disable the hotspot function.

Re: WRT54GL keeps dropping connection on LAN side

Hello,

Currently I have the same problem, (new WRT54GS flashed from Lynsys F/W to CoovaAP Firmware - version 1.0 beta.7d ).

Have you find a solution ?

This could be the cause of the HotSpot not being configured correctly (like when using radius auto-config, but with an account with no config). If chilli can not start, it will keep trying every so often to start it, causing the network to go down. That is at least one possible problem.

i have done a full reset after upgrading the firmware. by default should the radius be on and set to auto config with an account with no configuration? i will go back and double check all my settings but even after a full reset with no configuration done i still get have this problem.

If it doesn't work try reloading the firmware using tftp. The one built into XP is good enough.

i did a full reset after flashing the firmware and still get the same results.

what steps are needed to reload the firmware via XP's tftp?
