lost password

Just flashed a wrt54g with coova ap. All worked fine during install of firmware. When prompted for a password for the root directory I entered the normal one. It won't let me in now. Is there any way I can find out what the password is? I have tried all permutations of it in case i did a typo. I have tried to use both root and admin as the user name on them all. Past installs have asked for admin as the user name, this one has 'root' already in. any help appreciated.

Re: lost password

Hi David,
booting into safe mode was quite tricky, I saw an earlier post so luckily I could do that. I could telnet into it without safe mode but the command didn't work. Once i did a safe boot the command vi /etc/passwd released it and I could set the password again, this time carefully! thanks for your reply, all systems are go again and working fine.
cheers chris

Re: lost password

Boot into fail-safe mode to be able to telnet in to change the password. Or, reflash the firmware using tftp. Both techniques are rather easy to find information on if you google for 'whiterussian de-brick'
