Best Router Hardware for Coova AP

Hi, was running a WRT54GL with Coova AP on it (1.0, beta 8) - worked great for several months and it now seems like the router is fried (wireless signal is strong, then drops for a moment, and comes back etc. Tried messing with settings, including signal strength and antenna selection, but that didn't help...). So, the 54GL is an old model, there must be something better (and perhaps with more RAM) that can be used for Coova? Would love to hear some success stories of people that set up Coova (with remote Radius auth) and just let it run for months. On what hardware? With nightly reboots? Or just up and running forever?

Thanks much for your thoughts.

I asked this same question

I asked this same question not too long ago in this thread. I do think there is a beta 9 of CoovaAP out. But I have decided to buy small $29 Ubiquiti router preloaded with the ROBIN firmware and using open-mesh with CoovaOM for management. As I was looking through it looks like it also lets you use your own RADIUS server. Might check it out...CoovaAP is a great piece of software, its just too bad it doesn't get the attention it deserves. I wonder if anyone has ever tried getting some funding for it?

ubiquiti

Hm, I searched and couldn't find recommendations for routers in here, maybe I missed?

I think the ubiquiti router probably allows RADIUS as a type of WPA authentication, not as part of a captive portal with redirection and such. But thanks much for the thought. I'm really looking to use the Coova AP firmware, not CoovaOM and no open mesh.

Thanks again.

I didn't see any support for

I didn't see any support for WPA Enterprise (RADIUS/802.1x) in the standard ubiquiti firmware. It would require an SSL stack, perhaps that is the reason for it missing. Probably the best router for CoovaAP is the Linksys WRT54GL, and I think they have a new "open-source" model too.

WRT54GL

The WRT54GL is a great router - if a bit prone to failure - but it's a really old model at End Of Life. There must be a newer model that is ideal for Coova? Anyone?
