Getting DHCP from WAN side on Reboot

Hi,

I just noticed that when I did a reboot of my Coova box (WRT54G v2) that during the reboot process, my Macbook, which is connected via Ethernet, received a new IP by a router on the WAN side. The same router that gives my Coova it's IP address.

Since they are on different subnets, this causes a problem. I have to go an renew my lease to get a new IP, but I only get a new gateway, the IP stays the same, but in the Coova's routing tables and Arp tables, there are entries for this IP, hence things work...

Is this a bug?

I did not think that I could get an IP from a DHCP server on the WAN side?

Thanks,

Dave Leger

Re: Getting DHCP from WAN side on Reboot

Hi David,

Yes, it does keep happening, but only with my MacBook booted in MacOSX and only when plugged directly into the WRT54G router that is flashed with Coova. I reflashed and it's still doing it.

When booted up in Windows on the same MacBook, it does not receive an IP from the WAN side DHCP serverm it waits a little longer and receives the IP from the Coova.

I solved this by plugging in an old hub between me and the WRT54G. It's only when my MacBook detected a disconnection on the Ethernet that it would happen. It no longer sense a cable disconnect.

Thanks,

Dave Leger

Hmm... yeah, you shouldn't be able to get a DHCP from the WAN... does it keep happening?
