CoovaAAA / 802.1X / Nokia Phone

Use can use your CoovaAAA account with your Nokia phone, and probably others too. It requires support for 802.1X authentication (also known as WPA Enterprise or WPA/RADIUS) supported in the phone and an Access Point supporting the same. In this example, we are using the Nokia N95 and the Apple AirPort Extreme, configured to use CoovaAAA for authentication.

Create Access Point

Create a new Access Point profile by going into Tools -> Settings -> Connection -> Access points

Basic Settings

Create a new Access Point profile by selecting New access point from the Options menu.

Once created, give the profile a Connection name, select Wireless LAN for Data bearer, select your WiFi router in WLAN network name, and Network status can be public or hidden.

WLAN network mode is Infrastructure, select 802.1X for WLAN security mode, then proceed to configure the WLAN security settings.

Select EAP for WPA/WPA2. Enter into the EAP plug-in settings menu.

Disable most EAP protocols, but make sure PEAP is enabled and on top. Enter into the PEAP menu for more settings.

Personal certificate can be Not defined, Authority certificate must be selected to Thawte Premium Server, set User name in user to User defined and enter your CoovaAAA User name.

Scroll down and set Realm in use to User defined (but don't define one, unless you need to). Make sure Allow PEAPv0 is enabled, the others disabled.

From the previously pictured menu, use the right key to switch to the EAPs menu. Enable EAP-MSCHAPv2 and disable the rest.

Enter into the EAP-MSCHAPv2 menu and configure your CoovaAAA credentials. Finally, your done!
