CoovaAP Traffic Shaping
The CoovaAP comes with a traffic shaping script and a configuration screen in the admin web console under Network / Shaping. Although not very user friendly yet, the configuration screen allows you to configure:
- WAN Data Rate both for up and down. Enter the kbit/sec rate for your ISP connection. You can test your speed using something like dslreports
- Up/Down Shaping allowing for the classification of packets into either Highest, High, Standard, Low, and Bulk.
- Priority - predefined priorities highest, high, standard, low, and bulk
- Rate - percentage of the data rate "reserved" for the group
- Ceiling - the ceiling data rate for the group
- Quantum - the amount of data to move per cycle
- Filter - iptables filtering rule to classify traffic
- Seq - the sequence of the filtering by priority
The shaping uses the intermediate queueing device (IMQ) is used to shape both the egress and ingress. For more information regarding traffic shaping for linux, see Linux Advanced Routing & Traffic Control HOWTO.
