Coova Firefox Extension

CoovaFX is an extension for Firefox that can be used to login at HotSpots supporting the so-called WISPr XML method of authentication. This is the same way many smart-clients and devices login to HotSpots without the need for the user to interact with the captive portal. This extension can be used to test WISPr implementations or for your own use in logging in to your hotspot. Need the same thing, but on your phone? See CoovaSX.

Using the extension

Using Firefox, click on the link above. This should popup a dialog to install the extension. You will have to restart Firefox after installing.

Once installed, and not disabled, the extension will probe to see if the Internet is accessible. It does this by asking for a page on the Internet. If there is WISPr XML found, then the location name is shown and you can login. Tested with both CoovaAP and Colubris access controllers.

When online, you are given a green status!

About the extension

The WISPr client comes from the JRadius project. The extension does require that your browser has Java support.
